NEHW Image Bank
Project Purpose: To provide high quality, accessible, easy to use images and resources to LOCs, the profession and wider health and social care sector as part of a campaign to raise the profile of optometry and prevent avoidable sight loss in the UK.
The Central Fund provided a grant to Vision Matters to create an impressive library of images that LOCs and others can use to promote optometry; highlight the importance of having routine sight tests and illustrate important eye care advice.
The charity conducted a two-day photo shoot with models from diverse and minority backgrounds. The first shoot took place in a photographic studio and captured a series of hero, lifestyle and instructional images (eg: cleaning contact lenses and spectacles). The second shoot took place at UWE Bristol Eye Clinic where the journey of a patient’s visit to an optical practice was documented in a stunning collection of images.
The in-practice shots include the optometrist’s consulting room, dispensing, a low vision clinic and paediatric vision screening. This photography was then supplemented with a number of optical illustrations. Following post-production, the images were published on a National Eye Health Week photo gallery and used on the National Eye Health Week supporter resources.
The images made an invaluable contribution to promoting the profession and the importance of good eye care during National Eye Health Week 2025. To date images from the photo library and resources using these images (blogs, ready to-share social posts, posters and leaflets etc) have been sent to, or downloaded, by more than 3,500 organisations, including, local NHS and public health teams, LOCs and optical practices.
